DEKRA awarded contract to perform independent end-of-contract inspections of electric buses in Umeå
Dec 12, 2025The Public Transport Authority of Västerbotten has appointed DEKRA to carry out end-of-contract inspections of the articulated electric buses operating in the city of Umeå. The assignment includes an initial round of inspections in December 2025, followed by a final inspection when a new public transport operator takes over the city bus services next summer.
The inspections will be conducted as the current operator hands over the fleet to a new service provider. To ensure a fair and transparent transition, the Public Transport Authority has chosen a completely independent third party. DEKRA Quality Management AB, part of DEKRA Sweden, already performs a large number of end-of-contract vehicle inspections for passenger cars and is now applying its proven methodology, extensive experience and documented expertise to heavy vehicles.
The assignment involves a detailed technical inspection of each bus (VDL), focusing on vehicle condition, functionality and safety-related components. The inspection methodology is based on DEKRA's well-established quality processes for passenger vehicles but has been adapted to meet the more complex requirements of buses operating in public transport.
"We see this as a natural step for the market. We believe this is only the beginning for the heavy vehicle sector, which is now taking a much closer look at quality assurance and safety management," says Therese Ingelsson, Section Manager at DEKRA Quality Management AB.
