Nuclear power industry

Safety, quality and reliability throughout the entire lifecycle

The nuclear industry places some of the highest demands on safety, traceability and technical quality. Meeting these requirements requires not only advanced technology, but also proven expertise, independent verification and the right resources at every stage.

Inspection and testing of nuclear facilities are a core part of DEKRA’s business. In Sweden, we have been working continuously with nuclear power plants since the mid-1990s, giving us a unique understanding of technology, regulatory frameworks and operational challenges.
Today, DEKRA is a long-term partner to the nuclear industry – in Sweden and globally – with expertise in testing, inspection and qualification of both methods and personnel.

Strong global delivery capability

  • 200–250 specialists in nuclear power and testing across the Nordics and Lithuania
  • Operations in nuclear testing across Sweden, the Nordics, Europe and Asia
  • Experience from both existing and newly built reactors
  • Recent experience from testing newly constructed reactors in Korea

Our services in nuclear power

We provide advanced and qualified methods to ensure material reliability and detect defects in critical components:
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Eddy Current Testing (ET)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Visual Testing (VT)
Unique expertise:
DEKRA has developed an advanced system for inspecting stainless steel welds, enabling full coverage inspection from only one side of the weld. This allows for more efficient and safer inspections in complex environments.
We are one of the few companies outside the major OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) players capable of developing advanced inspection technologies and mechanized testing solutions with in-house development resources:
  • Development of proprietary robotic solutions for reactor environments
  • Customized inspection systems
  • Automated solutions for high repeatability
  • Adaptation to specific components and environments
We are one of very few independent suppliers with the capability to develop new robotic technologies for both new and existing reactor types. This development is carried out in our accredited laboratory in Solna, including a full-scale reactor pool. DEKRA also operates a nationwide network of approximately 30 laboratories in Sweden.
We provide complete systems for:
  • Nozzles and tank welds (PWR and BWR)
  • Internal components
  • Piping systems
All systems are developed to meet the nuclear industry’s stringent requirements for safety and verification.
We operate according to established and qualified procedures, such as:
  • UT-01
  • MT-01
  • PT-01
  • PUTS
Our operators have documented expertise in:
  • Defect detection
  • Characterization
  • Sizing

The right resources for safe projects

In nuclear projects, it is not enough to know what to inspect – it must also be demonstrated that the inspection is correct, traceable and fit for purpose.
DEKRA ensures this by:
  • Adapting technology, equipment and staffing to project needs
  • Providing experienced specialists in critical areas
  • Working closely with clients to deliver efficient and safe solutions

Accreditation and regulatory compliance

DEKRA is accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025 for testing activities.
This means we:
  • Operate our own accredited laboratory in Solna
  • Meet requirements for independence and competence
  • Work in accordance with Swedish regulatory authorities
  • Deliver results with high reliability and traceability
