H2 Ready Certification

Certification of materials and components for safe use under H2 conditions.

The certification of materials and components for safe use under hydrogen conditions is essential to ensure equipment performs reliably and safely in the evolving hydrogen economy. DEKRA certifies materials and components based on comprehensive testing in pressurized gaseous hydrogen to prove they can be used safely in such environments.

The hydrogen economy is advancing rapidly, driven by the ongoing energy transition. Building trust and confidence and ensuring the safe operation of new or repurposed hydrogen applications will be paramount for a successful transition.
A wide variety of equipment, components, and materials will be exposed to hydrogen, meaning we will need to prove resilience and reliability – this is where hydrogen certification becomes essential.

The Benefits To You

  • Prove that the material or component is ready for hydrogen service – certified by DEKRA
  • Boost confidence in hydrogen applications with our H2 Ready Certification
  • Ensure that operational safety is not compromised by the hydrogen atmosphere
  • Less testing required by manufacturers – leverage DEKRA’s unique hydrogen testing expertise

Our Approach

DEKRA assists manufacturers and operators within the hydrogen economy with its H2 Ready certification – a flexible solution to provide support in various stages:
  • Product Development
  • Quality Control
  • Manufacturing / Production
  • Operation
  • Claims Handling
DEKRA supports you as an independent third-party provider with its H2 Ready Certification. Our reliable and thorough certification process is structured as follows:
The customer submits an inquiry to examine the extent to which the material or component can be operated in a hydrogen atmosphere or with hydrogen.
A test plan is evaluated by the test lab in collaboration with the customer. Relevant criteria are defined.
Detailed discussions on the test plan are held in close collaboration with the customer.
The test plan is confirmed.
The tests are executed according to the test plan together with the customer.
Structured test reports are drawn up.
The documentation and the final report are drawn up.
The DEKRA H2 Ready Certification is issued, confirming that the tested material or component is suitable for use in hydrogen applications.
This approach focuses on transparent communications, ultimately leading to credible test reports, comprehensive documentation, and certifications that align with the industry's stringent safety standards.
